i tried to compile Hydra 5.4 but it's not working for some reason.
i found a deb pakage for ubuntu it's however version 4.1

download/hydra_4.1-1_i386.deb

Code:
root@host~#su dpkg -i hydra_4.1-1_i386.deb

it may appear an error something like "package hydra required dependency libssl0.9.7"

just download the following file to installl it
download/libssl0.9.7_0.9.7g-5ubuntu1.1_i386.deb

Code:
root@host~#su dpkg -i libssl0.9.7_0.9.7g-5ubuntu1.1_i386.deb

i would not recommend you to use Hydra is not for any illegal purpose, should only use it for testing security
finally do not ask me what Hydra used for.

Oh here is the password list download/password.gz
download/all.gz

update: ssh module is not compiled in this hydra*.deb
